2 barges explode in Alabama, 3 hospitalized, According to breaking reports from CNN and ABC, two fuel barges loaded with natural gas have had explosions tonight, April 24, causing a fire on the Mobile River in Alabama. Firefighters and rescue workers from the U.S. Coast Guard as well as from Mobile have responded. Three people were transported to a local hospital with burn injuries. Information regarding the extent of their injuries has not been released. It is believed, however, that all relevant persons have been accounted for.

The barges were on the east side of the Mobile River when the explosions occurred. There were at least three explosions on the two barges. The cause of the explosions is not yet known. Neither is the extent of damage known at this time.

The two barges are close to the area where the Carnival Triumph usually docks. The Triumph is the infamous Carnival cruise ship that was left damaged and drifting in the Gulf of Mexico in February with 4,200 people aboard following an engine fire.
