Best man fatally stabs bride for asking ‘more and more aggressive questions’

Best man fatally stabs bride for asking ‘more and more aggressive questions’, A best man fatally stabbed a bride for asking “more and more aggressive questions, more and more insistent questions of Jon,” said former Rep. Brad Miller about the murder of Jamie Hahn. In 2009, Jamie was a bride, Nation was her groom, and Jonathan Broyhill was the best man at the wedding. “Broyhill is a longtime friend of Nation Hahn and acted as best man at the couple’s 2009 wedding,” reported the Charlotte Observer on April 24, 2013.

“Hahn, 29, died early Wednesday from wounds sustained Monday evening, when police say Jonathan Broyhill, 31, stabbed Hahn and her husband, Nation, in their North Raleigh home.”

According to friends, Nation was in the upstairs of their home on Monday changing into gym clothes when he heard Jamie scream. After he ran downstairs, he found Jamie being attacked. In trying to defend his wife, Nation received cuts on both hands. Jamie, who was “bleeding terribly” from multiple wounds to her abdomen area, ran out of their home. An unidentified woman called 911 shortly before 5:30 p.m.

“Police arrived on the scene and followed a trail of blood from Tealbriar Drive to nearby Tealwood Place, where they found Broyhill in the Hahns’ home and additional blood, according to a search warrant released Tuesday.”

Besides having been the best man at their wedding and having been longtime friends, Jon Broyhill worked for Jamie Hahn’s political consulting firm Sky Blue Strategies. Authorities are investigating whether Jon Broyhill, made questionable campaign finance reports as an accountant. Jon Broyhill was the main person with access to fundraising software.

“In October, the Federal Elections Commission sent Miller campaign treasurer John Wallace a letter requesting more information about documents that appeared to show donors receiving refunds from the campaign in excess of what they paid. Those five donors gave a combined $8,250 in the 2012 quarterly report cited by the FEC, but the document shows the five receiving a combined $15,900 in refunds. ”

So far it has not been determined whether the donors actually received any of the money or if the money ended up in someone else’s pockets.

In a Yahoo! News video report, former Rep. Brad Miller who had hired Jamie Hahn’s political consulting firm Sky Blue Strategies for fundraising help in 2010 discussed that it is likely that Jamie Hahn asked Jon Broyhill aggressive and insistent questions about the money which might have resulted in the brutal ending of the longtime friendship between Jamie, Nation, and Jon Broyhill.

“Some of the things that Jon said about the campaign finances were inconsistent with other information. It’s probably the case that Jamie was asking questions on behalf of the campaign about campaign finances. I think it’s bound to be part of the investigation of Jon’s motive.”

Jon Broyhill remains at WakeMed with self-inflicted injuries and has been charged “with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.” The charges might be upgraded to murder.

Early Wednesday, Jamie’s family released a statement saying that “Jamie lost her struggle to live this morning.”

Jamie’s family also said that Jamie “believed in justice, opportunity and fairness for all” and that Jamie “had a gift for bringing us together – black and white, young and old, gay and straight. She challenged us to work together for a better world.”

Having been the best man at her wedding and a longtime friend, Jon Broyhill should have understood that Jamie’s questions were not for her own benefit but for those of others. Can money really make someone that blind?
