Pelosi least popular among partisan leaders

Pelosi least popular among partisan leaders, Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is the least-popular leader of a political party in Congress, according to a Gallup Poll released April 24.

Pelosi, 73, is viewed favorably by 31 percent of those polled and unfavorably by 48 percent.

There is nothing for Republicans to celebrate, however. The poll also shows House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) with a favorability rating of 31 and an unfavorable rating of 41.

In the Senate, top Democrat Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is seen favorably by 27 percent and unfavorably by 38 percent.

Republican leader U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is viewed favorably by 26 percent and unfavorably by 34 percent.

Both Boehner and McConnell are week among Republican voters, according to Gallup.

Boehner’s viewed favorably by only half the party and unfavorably by 26 percent.

McConnell is backed by 46 percent of Republicans, but 18 percent view him unfavorably.

"The implication for the 2014 elections is that neither congressional caucus has a strong front man or woman to lead its party's midterm campaign," Gallup concluded. "Given her popularity among fellow Democrats, Pelosi would appear to be the best messenger to help bring Democrats to the polls, but, if too visible, she might be even more effective at turning out Republicans, as may have been the case in 2010."
