Bombing suspect awake and responding in writing to questions about bombs, Headlines blare "bombing suspect awake," and the news is that he is answering questions in writing, according to an April 21 Yahoo News report. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon bombing suspect, has been recovering from multiple wounds since his capture on Friday evening.
According to reports, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical. The bombing suspect is recovering from wounds in his throat and neck, which could be why he is responding in writing instead of by talking. So far, investigators have revealed that the 19-year-old bombing suspect is "responding sporadically in writing to questions ... about other cell members and other unexploded bombs."
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is the remaining living bombing suspect. His brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was killed on Thursday evening in a shootout with police. Hopefully the fact that the bombing suspect is awake and answering questions will help investigators figure out what happened at the Boston Marathon and make sure that no others were involved in the bombing.
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino wants authorities to pursue the death penalty even though Massachusetts does not have the death penalty. He said,
"I hope that the U.S. attorney takes him on the federal side and throws the book at him. These two individuals held this city hostage for five whole days. They should not do that -- that's what these terrorist events want to do, hold the city hostage and stop the economy of the city."
So far, authorities have not charged the bombing suspect or read him his Miranda Rights sighting "public safety" concerns, which is a reason why citizens may not receive their Miranda Rights. So far, the harshest charges he could face are the use of a weapon of mass destruction to kill people.
Police commissioner, Ed Davis said,
"We have reason to believe, based upon the evidence that was found at that scene - the explosions, the explosive ordnance that was unexploded and the firepower that they had - that they were going to attack other individuals. That's my belief at this point."
Hopefully now that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is awake and communicating via written messages, authorities will be able to make sure that nothing else these brothers planned will end up hurting people. The Boston Marathon bombings killed three people and left 170 wounded. Then when they engaged police in a shootout, the brothers also killed an MIT police officer and critically injured another. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has a lot to answer for now that he is finally awake.
