Boston weather forecast for Apr. 24, 2013

Boston weather forecast for Apr. 24, 2013, Forecast discussion: It was a raw day in Boston today, feeling more like early March than the end of April. It felt even colder, as winds were from the east, off the cold Atlantic Ocean. The drizzle we had for most of the day was from a low pressure system that stayed further south and east than the models expected. However, it did bring some steady rainfall to the Cape and Islands.

This low will meander through the overnight hours offshore, so we will be seeing scattered showers and some light rainfall, with heavier precipitation along the Cape and Islands. Also, patchy fog will develop, so please take some precaution if you have to drive this evening. As we move into Wednesday morning, the low will continue to move northward, and into the Gulf of Maine. We will see some isolated showers come to an end by mid-morning. High pressure ridging will begin to build in by the afternoon, and we should see mostly sunny skies. Once the sun heats the ground, temperatures will rise quickly into the middle 60’s.

We will see the return to overcast skies Wednesday night, thanks to an approaching cold front now over the Great Lakes. We may see a passing shower from the front, and any shower activity will last into the middle of Thursday morning. But, like the day before, high pressure will slowly clear our skies through the afternoon.

As we move into the weekend, the high pressure system will be our dominant feature. It will influence our weather right through the weekend, and temperatures will be slightly below seasonable.

As we head into early next week, the computer models are still suggesting some moisture in the afternoon, as a weak low pressure system becomes blocked. But, we may see some drizzle or a passing shower. At this time, though, the models feel we may stay precipitation free. For now, I will keep some kind of precipitation in the forecast. By next Tuesday, the weak low will dissipate to our south, allowing for another high pressure system to influence our weather for next Wednesday.
