Obama's tattoo plan: First family has 'all for one, one for all' approach, On Wednesday, President Barack Obama revealed his family's body art policy, and it seems the First Family takes an "all for one and one for all" approach when it comes to tattoos. According to the President himself, Obama's tattoo plan calls for both parents to get identical ink if either of their daughters ever decide to try and get away with unauthorized body modification.
In a portion of a Today show interview which aired Wednesday, President Obama shared the full plan of action with a smile. "What we've said to the girls is, if you ever decide to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo, in the same place, and we will go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo." President Obama continued, trying to suppress a chuckle, "Our thinking is that might dissuade Sasha and Malia from thinking that somehow that's a good way to rebel." Obama's tattoo plan may be funny, but it also just may work. Some teens do look at body art as a way to rebel and exercise control over their own bodies, to exist as a separate entity from their parents, so most kids probably would shy away from the idea that their folks would run out and get the exact same piece.
Though Sasha and Malia are a bit young to get a legal tattoo, many teenagers have been known to seek out a body art studio that doesn't check ID's as carefully as they should. A good chunk of these kids actually do get tattoos, and their parents are among the last to know. Tattoos can be beautiful displays of tribute, decoration and loyalty, however, there are risks.
If you are considering a new tattoo, be sure to deal with an established shop that has some credibility in your neighborhood Ask to see the shop's autoclave (the device used to sanitize metal instruments used in tattooing), be sure you see your artist opening new needle packages and filling small caps of ink from their main bottles. Be safe and remember: good tattoos are rarely cheap, and cheap tattoos are rarely good!
