JFK Airport evacuated: A terminal was evacuated after suspicious package found

JFK Airport evacuated: A terminal was evacuated after suspicious package found, A terminal at JFK International Airport was temporarily evacuated on Sunday after a suspicious package was discovered. The package turned out to be a duct taped wrapped tube of toothpaste, according to Reuters on Sunday, April 21, 2013.

The terminal was closed for about 90 minutes right after the package was found shortly after 4 p.m. EST. It was found in the baggage room area of Concourse B in Terminal 4, reports a spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

It was the New York Police Department bomb squad that was called in. They determined that the package was just a tube of toothpaste wrapped in duct tape, reports Officer James Duffy said. "We determined that it only contained toothpaste," Duffy said.

The country is on edge after the Boston Marathon bombing and the recent letters laced with ricin sent to the President and a senator. Folks seem more alert today when it comes to spotting something out of the norm.

You have to admit, a tube of toothpaste wrapped in duct tape isn't something often seen and for what purpose would one wrap toothpaste in duct tape? Anyway, that one little tube was enough to bring things to a screeching halt in a terminal at a busy international airport.
