102 Bottles of Nail Polish

102 bottles of nail polish went missing from a CVS store shelf in Connecticut recently, leading to the arrest of a 42 year old man, according to reports.

The thief, Marco Gonzalez, was seen by staff at the CVS store stuffing dozens of bottles of nail polish into his pants and sweatshirt, before quickly making a beeline for the exit...reported.christianpost

The CVS store staff immediately notified authorities and as the man made his way to the exit a Loss Prevention Officer at the store intercepted him and challenged him about the theft.

The man admitted to the shoplifting of the Essie and Sally Hansen brand nail polish, and that he had no intention of paying for the goods. He did not give any excuse or explanation about what he planned to do with the nail polish, although it's unlikely he was stealing such quantities for his own use.

The retail value of the polish was over $800, according to the Middletown Press. The man was detained until authorities arrived, and he was then arrested and charged with fifth degree larceny.

The man was taken into custody and later released on $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on May 1.
This is not the first time thieves have targeted nail polish in such large quantities. Two years ago in 2011 a man was arrested in Staten Island for attempting to steal 142 bottles of nail polish from a Meiers Corners store.

In that case the shoplifter was 22 year old Joseph Ballew, and he admitted that he wanted to steal the bottles to sell them on and keep the money made from them.

Ballew explained that he had stolen nail polish before in the past and had been selling them to another nail salon for $2 a bottle. He was charged with felony grand larceny, possession of stolen property, and several misdemeanor charges.
