Illinois shooting: 5 dead and suspect in custody, An Illinois shooting left five dead at the Village of Manchester early Wednesday morning. FOX News reports April 24 that the rest of the town was put on immediate lockdown.

The shooting happened in a public housing complex where the population of the town is less than 400. A local radio station reported that the suspect attempted getting away, but was captured by police after a high-speed chase. Shots were fired, but he was taken into custody. Police do not believe another suspect is at large..reported.

Mayor Ronald Drake got a call about 4:45 a.m that there was a shooting involving multiple fatalities. Identities of the victims have yet to be released. Since it's a federal housing complex with a high turnover, the report said it's hard to keep up with their identities.

Three area school districts were closed due to the Illinois shooting that killed five people Wednesday: Northgreene, Winchester and Jacksonville. An estimated 950 students were affected by classes being cancelled.

A motive for the shooting is unknown at this time while law enforcement investigates the fatal shooting.
