Cops: Mastic home health aide stole Rolex from elderly patient

Cops: Mastic home health aide stole Rolex from elderly patient, A Mastic woman who worked as a home health aide for an elderly man was arrested Monday and is accused of stealing the man’s $7,000 Rolex watch and replacing it with a fake one, Suffolk County police said.

Joanne Pinder, 22, of 29 Titmus Drive, worked as a home health aide for an 86-year-old man in Bellport Village. According to police, on April 12, Pinder stole a Rolex watch that belonged to the man and replaced the watch, which is valued at more than $7,000, with a worthless rip-off.

The elderly man noticed that the watch was “similar,” but counterfeit, police said. He called detectives to report the theft.

At 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Fifth Precinct officers Brian Loughlin and Kevin Yoli were on routine patrol when they spotted Pinder committing a traffic infraction and initiated a vehicle stop on South Country Road and Academy Road in Bellport. While she was pulled over, the officers noticed the Rolex watch in her vehicle. After an investigation, she was placed under arrest.

Pinder was charged with fifth-degree grand larceny and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. She is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
