Utah teacher accused: Former teacher, coach accused of raping female student, A Utah teacher has been accused of raping a female student, and the story is truly starting to make the round. The Associated Press reported on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, that 22-year-old Courtney Louise Jarrell had sexual encounters with a 17-year-old female student at Riverton High School.

Jarrell was both the high school match teacher and coached the sophomore girls' basketball team.

She was charged this past Friday in the 3rd District Court. Her charges are rape and forcible sexual abuse. Court documents show prosecutors say that the sexual encounters between Jarrell and the student happened in Feb. and March of this year at the teacher's home.

Jarrell's attorney said that the teacher has resigned from the school so that she could focus on her defense. Jarrell is due in court on May 16, 2013, and is set to plead not guilty.

Sandy Riesgraf, the Jordan School District spokeswoman, resigned from the school on Friday as well. Before her resignation, she had been placed on administrative leave since allegations came about over a month ago.
