Lauryn Hill sentence: Fugees star Lauryn Hill tax evasion sentencing delayed, A Lauryn Hill sentence for her tax evasion charges has been delayed, according to the latest reports. The news comes just as the former member of the Fugees has signed a brand new record deal.

The TMZ website reported on April 22 that Hill has extended her freedom from prison for several weeks. The sentencing for her tax evasion charges over $968,000 of tax debt she owes has been moved to May 6. Hill had good news to report recently which may be in her favor when the judge hands down the decision...reported...examiner.

The report notes that Hills attorney has said his client just said a new million-dollar recording deal with Sony. In addition, Hill was looking to take out a loan for $650,000 towards the taxes she owes. Hill currently faces several years in prison over the tax evasion, but she and her attorney are trying to have her avoid prison by doing probation so she can work to pay off her taxes.

A video from TMZ shows Lauryn Hill with her legal team as she leaves the court. TMZ attempted to ask her several questions about her plans for the May 6 court date, or what she expects to get as her sentence, but Hill stayed silent the whole way until she got into a vehicle to leave.

Lauryn Hill has been somewhat absent from the music scene, although she participated in a recent concert tour with rap star Nas. She appeared on the Nas song "If I Ruled the World," in addition to recording her own solo album "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" which won her the Album of the Year Grammy back in 1999.
